Pony Rides for Day Cares, Pre-Schools and Kindergartens

We recently took a pony to Kids' Academy in Durham, and it was so much fun! The kids got to sit on the pony and get a short ride while a teacher took pictures, and we answered lots of very good pony questions. It worked out so well that we decided to make the same program available to as many preschools as possible.

A century ago all children, even city kids, knew about horses. Everyone either owned horses or encountered them everywhere. Now horses are much rarer, but there's something about horses that seems to excite kids of all ages.

We think it's right for kids to learn about horses, so we try to get our ponies out to pre-schools and daycares whenever possible. Here's how it works:

• The pony arrives at a scheduled time. 
• Small groups of kids, maybe six or eight at a time, get to see and touch the pony. 
• Perhaps someone from the school takes a picture of each child sitting on the pony. 
• Kids who are old enough get a brief ride on the pony. Everyone gets to ask questions. 

Favorite questions are, "Where does the pony live?" "How did the pony get here?" "What do horses eat?" "Is it a boy or a girl?" "How old is he?" and "How big will he be when he grows up?" The kids learn that the pony is full grown, that he is a lot older than they are. 

We also teach important safety rules, such as never to stand behind any horse. One of the best things the kids learn is that they don't have to be afraid of the pony. 

Here are the details for arranging a pony at your school: We can handle about 30 pre-school children in about an hour, and we try to charge less than $100 for an hour, with additional time at $50 per hour. This is a special price for small pre-schools, daycares and kindergartens, and is not available for birthdays, for large schools, or for any weekend events.
